Stroud High School is a girls' grammar school in Gloucestershire. Its 11+ entrance exam uses the GL board, and there is no interview stage. The school does not have a catchment area; places are offered based on test scores, with distance from the school used only as a tie-break.

If your daughter is curious and sociable, happy to work hard but keen to throw herself into everything else too, Stroud High School is a warm, high-performing girls' grammar that the Good Schools Guide says is best suited to exactly that kind of child, one willing to throw themselves into classroom life and beyond. It sits in the Cotswold town of Stroud and takes girls from 11 to 18, with boys joining a few of the sixth form classes shared with the wider area.

The school was founded in 1904 as the Girls' Endowed School so that local girls would have a secondary school to match the boys' school nearby. Its first headmistress was a niece of Dorothea Beale of Cheltenham Ladies' College, and the original Queen Anne-style building from 1912 still forms part of the school today. The Good Schools Guide describes pupils as mild-mannered, communicative and driven, with parents finding the place more informal and less traditional than a classic grammar, and very, very welcoming. The school talks about wanting bright girls to experience the exceptional every day, and its culture leans on strong relationships, respect for individuality and a sense of fun rather than pressure.

The head, Mark McShane, has led the school since 2014. Stroud suits a girl who wants to be stretched academically but also wants room to get stuck into the life of the school beyond lessons, in a calm, ambitious place that treats her as a whole person, not just a set of grades.
