Yes. Chigwell offers means-tested bursaries at 11+ for children who meet the entrance requirements but whose families cannot afford full fees. Awards can cover up to all of the tuition fees, depending on your circumstances. To apply, tick the bursary box on the registration form and complete an initial income assessment. Families who qualify are then assessed by an independent partner, Bursary Assessment Associates. Your financial information stays confidential and does not affect your child's place.
At 11+, Chigwell awards academic, music and sports scholarships. Tick the scholarship box on the registration form to register your interest. Academic awards go to children who do especially well in the entrance exam, who are then invited to an interview and assessment in English and maths plus a collaborative task. Music applicants audition and should be around Grade 4 on their first instrument. Sports applicants attend an assessment. Awards may carry a small fee reduction or be honorary.
It is a friendly 30-minute meeting at the school, held before the entrance exam. While you talk with a senior member of staff about life at Chigwell and your child's strengths and interests, your child is met separately. The school sets a warm, low-pressure tone and wants to get to know your child as a person rather than test them. There is no exam in this meeting; the written assessment happens on a later date.
