Ashlawn School is a partially selective mixed school in Rugby, offering Year 7 places via the GL 11+ exam and its own ML Aptitude Test. 31 pupils are admitted based on the 11+ automatic qualifying score, and 25 via the ML Aptitude Test. There is no interview stage, and the 11+ pass mark is currently unknown.

If you are looking for a school in Rugby that will keep your child known rather than lost in the crowd, Ashlawn is one many local families come to see. It is a large co-educational school for children aged 11 to 18 in Hillmorton, part of the Transforming Lives Educational Trust alongside neighbouring schools including Houlton and the Henry Hinde primaries. It is partially selective, so a minority of Year 7 places are offered to children who do well in Warwickshire's 11+ test, while most are filled on the school's ordinary admissions criteria, which means a wide mix of children learn together.

What the school keeps coming back to is a sense of belonging. Ashlawn talks about everyone being part of the 'Ashlawn family', and sets out its CARE values plainly as community, aspiration, respect and excellence, with kindness running underneath them. It describes itself as inclusive, aiming to give a high quality education to every child whatever they have faced, and its motto, 'our best, always', is the kind of line a child can actually hold onto. Beyond lessons there is plenty to take part in, from a Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh to a broad set of clubs and trips.

It suits a child who will do well with structure, encouragement and a strong sense of community around them, whether they are aiming high academically or simply finding their feet. Ashlawn sets out to help its students grow as individuals and become positive contributors to the world around them. For a Warwickshire family wanting a big school that still feels like it knows your child, it is well worth a visit.

Passing the 11+ is not the only way in. Ashlawn is a bilateral school: most places are non-selective. After children with an EHCP and looked-after children, up to 31 selective places go to those who reach the qualifying score in the 11+ test, with priority to children in eastern Warwickshire and the Rugby area. Up to 25 go on a Modern Language aptitude test. The rest are non-selective, by sibling link, then home in the priority area around Rugby, then staff children, then distance. There is no fixed pass mark; the bar is set each year by demand.

What happens if my child is ill on 11+ test day at Ashlawn School?

If your child is ill on test day and cannot sit the 11+, you must tell Warwickshire Admissions by 23:59 on the day of the test. Send a medical note, scanned, faxed or by hand, and an alternative date can be arranged. The test is run by Warwickshire, not the school. For access arrangements, children with an assessed special educational need can get up to 25% extra time in English and Maths, plus support such as a scribe or enlarged papers, where this is requested in good time.
